Joyce & Al: Est. 11-12-13
{Chico, Ca Wedding & Event Photographer}
November 2013
They met online. A small town, kind-hearted guy from Northern California. A beautiful, fun-loving girl from Singapore. Call it fate; call it a coincidence; call it a chance encounter. He was immediately smitten. And--there was no denying it--she, too, felt a strong connection. But, she knew they had to be practical. I mean, it wasn't exactly an easy commute, and it definitely put the "distance" in the phrase "long-distance relationship". But after months of correspondence, and several trips to the United States (and Al visiting Singapore as well), Joyce was convinced: he was perfect for her.
So on November 12, 2013 (yes, 11-12-13!), the two married on a beach in San Francisco--a private, intimate ceremony. Joyce and Al. A fatefully perfect match.
A week later, they gathered for a sweet, simple reception. Together with thirty of their closest friends and family, the two celebrated during a luncheon held at one of the BEST restaurants in Chico--the town in which they would now call home and start their lives together.
I was honored to capture the event; I absolutely loved watching these two interact, and they were so fun and awesome to work with. From our initial meeting at Peet's just a couple of months prior, I knew this would be a fabulous opportunity. Thank you both for a wonderful experience! Enjoy and congratulations!

Joyce worked so hard on all of the decor for the event--loved her DIY style!
Joyce's parents came all the way from Singapore for the celebration, and it was the first time many members of Al's family had a chance to meet them.
Let the party begin! I must say that the 5th Street staff were incredibly professional and so friendly.
Cheers!
Al and Joyce gave a little welcome toast once their guests were seated. Al jokingly announced their wedding date incorrectly...love the look Joyce gives him here! Like, duh!
Joyce is a total foodie, and she asked me specifically to photograph all of the event's dishes. In her culture, it is customary to take pictures of meals prior to eating them.
The two newlyweds put together a sweet slideshow of their travels.
Al's brother delivered a very funny and heartfelt speech welcoming Joyce to their family.
She promised to be nice...
...but her fingers were crossed!
Joyce didn't realize that it's tradition to then have the groom give a bite to the bride! Payback!
But Al was sweet :-)
After the lunch and dessert, we headed outside for some family portraits.
I loved this brick wall with Ivy so much! I decided it was a fun spot to take a few shots of the couple.
LOVED Joyce's dress--a fabulous thrift store find!
We then wandered through downtown Chico for a few more photos of the newlyweds.
Al was a bit camera shy...although I'm not sure why!
Joyce, you are stunning.
